Courtney Uncooked Episode 20:  Maple Syrup Monday Cleanse Cocktail

Courtney: Hi, I’m Courtney Uncooked and this is my dear friend Rachel Kemp. And I’m so excited to have Rachel back on the show because Rachel is one of those friends that is down for anything. She always says yes, she’s so fun, she’s such a good time and she always goes with me on health journeys. So we went vegan together and we’ve done a 30-day juice cleanse together and so I called Rachel the other day, super excited that I had found a fast, cheap, easy, healthy and effective juice cleanse that everybody could use after they consult their physician during this quarantine time.

Because it’s just going to help you get off that weight if you’ve been emotionally eating or eating out of boredom, like me, I can’t believe I just said I’ve been bored at all. So I called Rachel to share this with her and said, will you do it with me and do it with me on the show? But you got to do it for a couple of days before the show and she said yes. So Rachel, how has the cleanse been? Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you got going on girl.

Rachel: Awesome. Thanks, Courtney. Thanks for having me back. I’m Rachel, I have a company called Live the Blissful Life and I love living the blissful life.

Courtney: I love living it with you.

Rachel: Oh gosh. But you know what? This quarantine has gotten the best of most of us. Like, I was stress eating and then I was bored eating as you said, I was just shoving food in my mouth all the time. I was eating healthy, but it was just a little bit more than normal. So when Courtney called me to tell me about this awesome cleanse, I was like, yeah, I’ll try anything. So I’m on day three, I’m feeling awesome, I’m feeling great and we’d love to share with you all the benefits and how to do it.

Courtney: Yeah. And I think, you know, fasting a lot of times gets a bad rap. I’ve heard of like the lemonade diet and this cleanse before and people have said that it’s a starvation diet, but it’s not. It’s good to fast and give your body a break, your organs a break, your digestive system. I mean, you wouldn’t want to walk around all day right?

Rachel: No.

Courtney: Right, you’d want to sit down or lay down or rest at some point. And that’s what fasting does for our internal organs. It’s amazing. And it’s also, you know, you can get really spiritual with it. And on the days that you do this fast, choose to pray for everybody, you know, and for the world and make it a total mind, body, emotional cleansing. So I’m committed to now doing this every Monday so that if I had a bad week, I can make up for it, on Monday and lose four or five pounds in a day.

This is healthy. It’s made with three superfoods only and water. And water is the greatest superfood of all time. We’re made of almost all water, and that’s lemons, cayenne pepper, maple syrup, water. That’s it. That’s all you need and you’re not hungry. Have you been hungry?

Rachel: Nope, I haven’t been hungry or hangry. Not at all.

Courtney: Now I do get emotionally hungry, you know like I just want it but not physically. Physically you are satisfied. The maple syrup gives you that natural sugar to keep going and to fuel you. And then the lemons are great for weight loss and they help speed up your metabolism and they’re very alkalizing inside the body. Lemons are.

Rachel: And vitamin C is boosting your immune system right now.

Courtney: Yes, tons of vitamin C, this is definitely also a way to boost your immune system. Thank you I hadn’t even thought about that. I was just, you know, focusing on getting this weight off, girl.

Rachel: I know that’s awesome.

Courtney: Because you know the camera puts on 20 pounds. Yes. I look 20 pounds skinnier than this, I promise you. I do. Okay, so what we want to do is just start with preferably eight to 12 ounces of alkaline water. Whether you get your alkaline water from a Berkey or a well or a Kangen water machine. If you can get alkaline water, definitely get that. And then just a tablespoon of maple syrup. And then the juice from one lemon or two tablespoons of lemon juice.

I just go ahead and throw the whole lemon in. Sometimes it’s three, sometimes it’s one and a half. I just use the juice of one lemon and that’s it. And then you top it off with a little dash or a splash of cayenne pepper. And cayenne pepper is great for boosting your metabolism. So this is just a super drink. It is so good. Cheers. And then I also want to talk about making it in bulk. That’s good. Okay.

Rachel: And you can drink as much of this as you want all day long.

Courtney: Yes, you do not have to count how many of these you drink. Just drink ‘em, drink ‘em,  drink ‘em.

Rachel: That’s what we’ve been doing.

Courtney: You’ll feel better with every sip, of course, after you’ve consulted your physician on that. Okay. So, I like to know how to make one of these in case I run out of what I’ve made for the day. But I really find that I’m going to be more successful doing this if I make a whole batch for the day. And when I do that, I use just a gallon of water, a cup and a half of organic squeezed lemons and then a third a cup of maple syrup. And then mix it all together and put it in large jars and just have it ready for the whole day. And then like I said, if I run out, I’ve got the single drink or my friend Deepika, she starts every day, this is her breakfast, this is what she does for breakfast.

So she kind of keeps the fast going and that’s what breakfast means is you’re breaking the fast from being asleep all night. So if you can have a liquid breakfast, like a juice or a smoothie, that’s going to keep your fast going longer until lunchtime. So, yeah. But I just, I love this, and are you going to make a commitment to join me on Mondays, Rachel?

Rachel: Yes, Maple Mondays.

Courtney: Really every Monday? Maple syrup Monday. Yes. I mean we can’t go wrong and we’d love for you to join us on maple syrup Monday and let us know what you think and let us know, how much weight did you lose? Did you feel great?
