Courtney… Courtney Uncooked.
Courtney: Hi, I’m Courtney Uncooked and this is my dear friend, Megan Riggs with Crunchy Hydration back again. Megan was on our first ever episode.
Megan: Very first one.
Courtney: This January 1st, 2020, and boy, how the year has changed since the first day we are…
Megan: Yes, here we are.
Courtney: Yeah, it’s just a different world. Megan’s back and…
Megan: But we are squeezing the day, yes.
Courtney: Squeeze the day, that’s all you can do in these times…
Courtney: Is squeeze the day, yes.
Megan: And when life gives you limes…
Megan: Or limes we make deodorant.
Courtney: Lemonade. Yes, when life gives you lemons make deodorant, that’s great Megan.
Courtney: So, Megan actually called me during this and she had run out of deodorant and didn’t want to go to the store and was kind of freaking out.
Megan: I was.
Courtney: And I said, Megan, calm down, Courtney Uncooked’s got you. And I taught her how to make lime deodorant and Victoria Raine taught me and gave me the gift.
Megan: I love her.
Courtney: And that’s what it is, this recipe is a gift, how to make lime deodorant. And yeah, we love Victoria Raine and Victorious Kombucha. Her kombucha is amazing, she is amazing, I’m so glad that she taught me this trick and that I could share it with you. And you know, she just rubs a little bit of lime under her arms…
Megan: That’s it.
Courtney: And that’s all you need to do, that’s it. That’s the deodorant. Okay, we’ll see you later. But I said, you know, there’s got to be an easier way…
Megan: Got to.
Courtney: Because I got sick of having the little bits on me. So, I bought this little travel-sized spray bottle.
Megan: It’s the perfect size.
Courtney: It’s the perfect size. And then I got me a little squish, what is it? funnel.
Megan: Squish funnel.
Courtney: Squish funnel. Say that five times, squish funnel, squish funnel, squish funnel. I got this and it fits perfectly into my little travel size bottle.
Megan: And you can use it for other things.
Courtney: So that I can squeeze my own lime deodorant. So, Megan, I’m going to let you get started.
Courtney: So, all it is, you know, you just cut the limes in half and squeeze them in your bottle and that’s it. And if you have sensitive skin, you can dilute this recipe with 25% preferably alkaline water…
Courtney: Whether you get that from a Kangen machine or a Berkey machine or I just do straight-up lime juice, it doesn’t bother me at all. Does it bother you?
Megan: No. But at first, I was showering and then shaving in the shower. And if you put it on right after shaving…
Megan: That’s kind of uncomfortable so maybe don’t do that.
Courtney: So how long would you say to wait after shaving, before putting this on?
Megan: I would wait like an hour and actually I was doing a lot of research on deodorant and read that it’s more efficient to do it at night. So maybe try just putting a little bit on your armpits at night before you go to bed.
Megan: A lot of people are like, is it sticky? It’s really not sticky.
Courtney: No, it’s not sticky at all.
Megan: It smells.
Courtney: And it works by killing the bacteria.
Megan: 99%, yeah.
Courtney: It kills it at the core.
Megan: Limes killed 99% of the bacteria in your armpit. And it also helps train your body to sweat less.
Courtney: Yes, yes definitely.
Megan: So, I’ve noticed like one, I was so thankful to have this, but the more that I used it, I just stopped needing it.
Courtney: You need less and less.
Courtney: The longer you go.
Megan: And you sweat less, like I was actually like Courtney, the real story, she was like, yes, you’re sweaty…
Courtney: She’s a Sweaty Betty…
Megan: You’re a Sweaty Betty. You and your sister…
Courtney: This is like the sweatiest girl I know.
Megan: You need to do this challenge.
Courtney: But I didn’t want to call you out…
Courtney: On TV like that but if you want to let people know how sweaty you are, you can. You’re sweaty because this girl does hot yoga…
Courtney: Twice a day, that’s how you look like that. No, thank you. No, thank you. I’ll look like this.
Megan: So, you’re like, if this can work for me it can work for anyone.
Courtney: This is working for me; I can’t do two-a-days hot yoga.
Megan: And it’s so easy. It’s one simple ingredient. I mean, even natural deodorants that I…
Courtney: This is like going everywhere.
Megan: It’s okay. It also disinfects your counters.
Courtney: It usually is. This is true, it’s an all-natural cleaner.
Courtney: Did you use to lighten your hair with lemon juice too?
Megan: I did.
Courtney: During this time, you know, when we can’t go to a hairdresser, you can give yourself some highlights.
Megan: Limes, lemons, have a lot of uses.
Courtney: Start off conservatively, and definitely consult your hairdresser before doing that.
Megan: Yeah, it dries out your hair.
Courtney: It is a natural highlight, citrus.
Megan: But speaking of products, so one, this honestly, like it really did work. I’m not going say I was skeptical, but I was kind of skeptical.
Courtney: You were totally skeptical.
Megan: I was totally skeptical.
Courtney: You were like I’m not rubbing a lime under my arm, which is what I told Victoria for months…
Megan: Before she made me do it.
Megan: And now I don’t even really need it, I don’t really wear anything and it sparked this interest in just what I’m putting on my body. Our skin is the largest organ so…
Megan: The lotion that we put on, the deodorant that we’re putting on, even if it’s natural are you looking at what’s in it? So, this it’s like, okay, yeah, it’s clean, I know what’s in it I can use it for like you said, cooking, whatever
Courtney: So, if I’m doing a recipe and it needs a tablespoon of lime juice, I’ll just take the top off and pour this in a tablespoon and put it in my recipe because it’s clean, it’s in the bottle, it’s coming out…
Courtney: You know, this is perfectly okay to use for cooking. And a lot of times, you know, I buy a bag of lime and then I don’t use as much as I think I’m going to need and my limes start to turn brown and that’s when I’ll cut them in half…
Megan: That’s the perfect time.
Courtney: And juice them and make them into deodorant. Then if I have tons of deodorant already made and I have limes going bad, I’ll make it and give it to a friend…
Courtney: And give this gift to them. I mean, this is truly the gift…
Courtney: That keeps on giving. And you know, to get the most juice out, you want to rub it on the counter or between your palms or just squeeze it back and forth. Speaking of limes, I love my lime Crunchy Hydration. This is a great new flavor. So, tell us about your business. How have you adapted, adjusted, accommodated in this lime? Time not lime, I’m kidding.
Megan: So, it was definitely an adjustment during this time, but like we’ve seen all of our favorite local businesses, everyone’s just getting creative and innovative…
Courtney: Yeah, yeah.
Megan: And finding a way to make it work and to still spread love, positivity to give back. So, for us I wasn’t even thinking about how can I make money or sell more waters, I was like, all right, like let’s do fun challenges.
Courtney: Yeah, okay.
Megan: So, every single week we did a different challenge, a different giveaway, yoga challenges, funny dancing, like videos with your dogs and finding other ways to spread positivity and doing fun challenges and researching. Like this changed my whole perspective. I was like, what am I putting on my body?
Megan: Because I eat healthily, I know what’s going in my body, but what am I putting on my body? So…
Courtney: Because your skin is your largest organ…
Courtney: And everything you put on your skin is going to get absorbed into your body and into your bloodstream.
Megan: I started…what’s the website… EWG.org they have amazing…
Courtney: Okay yes, I love them.
Megan: Yeah, it’s a website, ewg.org, and…
Megan: They review all types of food products and beauty products, skincare, and it just tells you exactly what’s in there. And if say you’re getting some type of deodorant, you take a picture of it, scan it, and then it will actually provide different alternatives if that’s not like a…
Courtney: That’s so cool!
Megan: Healthy product.
Courtney: Great idea!
Courtney: How necessary today?
Courtney: You know, it’s just so relevant…
Megan: Just makes you think.
Courtney: Yeah. I am feeling inspired my friend.
Courtney: Thank you for coming today.
Megan: Of course.
Courtney: Thanks for trusting me.
Megan: Thanks for the gift that keeps on giving.
Courtney: Yes, thank YOU for the gift that keeps on giving.
Courtney Rapping: Me, and my girl Megan are making deodorant out of limes. It’s super-duper easy and we’re having a great time. Most deodorants you buy are made from really bad stuff and the side effects they can bring are really rough. Just a little bit of lime can keep smell away. And it’ll keep working for up to four days. No, you don’t need a stove or an oven to cook, just a blender, dehydrator, and Courtney Uncooked.
