Courtney: Hi, and happy Valentine’s Day and February from Courtney UnCooked and my dear friend, Crystalynn, who’s also my raw vegan chef and brings me food when I don’t have time to cook and I am so excited to have her here today.
Crystalynn: Yes, excited.
Courtney: And especially on Valentine’s day and in the month of February, because I love you so much.
Crystalynn: I love you. I love Valentine’s day, it’s my favorite holiday, it’s the holiday of love.
Courtney: It is the best; it should be every day all across the world.
Crystalynn: People that love, love. I love people that love Valentine’s Day.
Courtney: Yes, I love you. And you’ve just, you’re such a blessing to my life and you’re just always bringing me food and positivity and giving me hugs. And, you know, even though I’m a raw vegan chef, I, you know, do real estate full-time and have a kayaking company full-time. So, I don’t have a lot of time, you know, I only have one recipe a week in me so that’s where Crystalynn comes in and you’re not just, you know, bringing me food. It’s literally made with love. It is the best food I’ve ever had in my entire life. And you know, for me, she does raw vegan food delivery and she’ll do it for you too. I have people ask me all the time if I will deliver them raw vegan food. And I’m like, gosh, half the time, I don’t even have time to make myself a banana much less, you know, food. So, it’s just, you’re such a great resource too, and the name of Crystalynn’s business is Say It Ain’t Soy.
Crystalynn: Yes, Say It Ain’t Soy.
Courtney: How’d you come up with that?
Crystalynn: I’m a vegan. I’ve been vegan for three years.
Courtney: Good girl.
Crystalynn: I have a three-year-old and a five-year-old, I’m a military spouse. And I just was always trying to find something that was quick and convenient that wasn’t drive-through and unhealthy. And there just was such limited options and I needed something that was vegan, but also, I follow a strict diet. So, gluten-free, soy-free so…
Courtney: Everything she makes is gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan and you can do raw vegan.
Crystalynn: Raw, yes. I have clients that follow an alkaline diet. I have clients that are keto. I love working with each of my clients and focusing on their goals and just making it my passion and my, you know, goal as well, getting them to reach their goals, so.
Courtney: So, you don’t have to feel guilty as a mom anymore. You’re literally the price per meal of almost a fast-food meal. I mean, your prices are shocking for the value that you get. So, moms don’t feel guilty anymore, just give Crystalynn a call. And when I gave you a call and said, Hey, what do you want to make on the show? I was shocked that she did not want to make any food because you make the best food ever. But you were really passionate…
Crystalynn: It’s Valentine’s Day.
Courtney: You got loud and you were heated and you were really excited, you wanted to make body scrub.
Crystalynn: Yes, yes.
Courtney: So why, what’s up with this body scrub?
Crystalynn: I love it, this is my favorite body scrub. I feel like it’s not just about what you eat. It’s also about what you put on your body and just having natural things on your body.
Courtney: Well, what I say is, if you won’t eat it, do not put it on your body because putting it on your body is the same thing as eating it, it gets absorbed into your bloodstream and into your body inside just like food does. So, I go product by product. I get one, like the body butter that I made with my friend Chynel and I have mastered that now I want to do a body scrub and then toothpaste. So, people don’t have to get overwhelmed you know, we can take this journey together and just replace one product at a time with something else that’s going to be healthy,
Crystalynn: Simple ingredients, simple ingredients you have in your kitchen. I know most moms have coffee; most moms have coconut oil. We all know it’s the solution to anything. Just dip your entire kid in coconut oil and good to go.
Courtney: Speaking of kids and coffee, what do they have in common?
Crystalynn: What do they have in common?
Courtney: They’re both always grounded. Okay, so your body scrub is super easy. It’s only three equal parts of coconut oil and coffee grounds, and you always want to do organic because you’re rubbing this into your skin. So, organic coconut sugar, organic coffee, and coconut oil, just a half a cup of each to start with. And so why is the coffee a good ingredient for this?
Crystalynn: Coffee is amazing. Coffee is great for exfoliating, it’s a natural exfoliant. It’s energizing, I feel like when I use this scrub in the shower, you kind of have like a little coffee buzz going on, but more importantly, it’s the antioxidants in coffee. It is great for not only getting rid of the dead skin cells but also it helps with scars. It helps with stretch marks and as a mom of two…
Courtney: I didn’t know that.
Crystalynn: Yes, yes, it is great. We can talk all day about food and different recipes, but also there are certain things that, you know, you want to take care of the inside too. And this is just such an easy and convenient way to take care…
Courtney: So, what does the sugar do? So, the coffee is going to wake us up.
Crystalynn: The sugar, it’s a natural exfoliator as well, it kind of gives it like a nice smell and then also it has all the antioxidants that coconut has in it and just basically making your skin super glowy and dewy, and that’s kind of what we all want, right? I like to mix in a little bit of vanilla extract to give a little…
Courtney: What does the vanilla do?
Crystalynn: It just gives it besides the antioxidants. Vanilla has lots of antioxidants on its own, but also, it’s mainly for the smell. It gives it a nice vanilla latte. I’ll sometimes just kind of use vanilla as its own perfume, natural, you could put it on your wrists.
Courtney: And that gives me the perfect amount of moisture.
Crystal: Yes.
Courtney: To finally be done with it, and then what do you do? So, you wanted to show this on Valentine’s day because it’s a great gift.
Crystal: Yeah.
Courtney: For your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your mom.
Crystalynn: Your girlfriends, if you do a little girl’s Galentine’s day, or whatever.
Courtney: Those are so much better than hanging out with boys.
Crystalynn: Right, I feel like…
Courtney: Oh, that’s what we’re doing! Galentinsing!
Crystalynn: Right, happy Galentine’s day.
Courtney: Thank you, happy Galentine’s day. Alright, I’m going to give it a try. If only you could feel this, it’s going to feel like a baby’s butt,
Crystalynn: I’ll sit there in the shower for, a couple of minutes, depending on how much time I have, and yeah, it’s…
Courtney: So, you do this on your whole body and you said you do it twice a week.
Crystalynn: Twice a week, yeah. I mean once a week, twice a week, but no more than twice, your skin will start getting a little bit more sensitive if you do it too often. And you can mix it up too, sometimes I’ll take out the coconut sugar and I’ll use different sugars, or sometimes I’ll even make salt scrubs and use different types of herbs and make peppermint salt scrubs. But yeah, there are just so many different options.
Crystalynn: Wow.
Courtney: Very nice.
Crystalynn: Right. Wow.
Courtney: So good. I love it, sorry. This is great.
Crystalynn: Yes.
Courtney: So, I’m going to make a jar for you and a jar for I, for our Galentine’s day party.
Crystalynn: Happy Valentine’s day.
Courtney: Let’s cheers it!
[Outro Music]Courtney Rapping: Making coffee body scrub with my girl Crystalynn, to keep this recipe a secret, would be a sin. It don’t look pretty but it gets the job done, and making it was easy and super fun. Coconut oil and sugar, full of vitamin C cause silky and smooth’s the only way to be, no, you don’t need a stove or an oven to cook just a blender, dehydrator and Courtney UnCooked.
